I am selling a custom built in 2018 teardrop camper. This was designed to be ultralight, efficient, maintenance free, and super easy to use and enjoy without any of the limitations associated with towing a camper. This camper has over 14 inches of ground clearance and is very capable for jeep trails & off-roading. The entire exterior is skinned with aluminum. The bottom is steel so there is no exposed plywood to rot away on you. The top, sides and bottom are all very well insulated with 1″ of foam insulation keeping the camper comfortable. 3M 5200 sealant that is designed for marine under waterline use is used as a sealant in critical locations.
I chose not to incorporate any water tanks, sinks or plumbing because the practicality of having such small tanks seemed virtually useless to me while increasing the need for maintenance. The internal frame of the teardrop is made from welded 1″ square tubing. The trailer base is 2″ angle iron. The torsion axle is rated for 2000 pounds. The entire weight of the camper as it is pictured is right around 800 pounds. The combination of shape and light weight make this camper tow like an absolute dream. This can comfortably be towed by any car that can have a hitch attached. My fuel mileage towing it behind my 4Runner is unchanged from driving without the camper. In addition to it being light, it is also small. It fits easily into two parking spaces so pulling into most parking lots or parking it on the street is no problem. Even in those small old tourist towns like St. Augustine, Florida and Salem, Massachusetts it is easy to find parking.
This camper features a USA made 9″ thick Queen size memory foam mattress. The mattress is beautiful and doesn’t have any of the smells associated with cheaper mattresses and off gassing. The mattress is thick enough that when sitting on it with your legs out the open door, the door frame doesn’t cut into the back of your legs.
On the tongue of the camper there is an 19″ x 58″ expanded metal platform for transporting chairs, bikes, coolers, etc. The back has a locking aluminum diamond plate door that opens to a pullout counter top with a pullout drawer for a stove, and a cooler storage area. The pictured stove, cooler, and propane tank are not included. The back compartment is lined on the base with rubber matting making it really nicely finished and easy to keep clean. The right side of the trailer has a mount for a 5 lb propane cylinder to make cooking easy and convenient.
The trailer lighting is all tested and consists of easily acquired (Wal-Mart, Lowes, Home Depot, Etc) replacement sealed lights that just press into rubber grommets. It takes minutes to change out lights without the need for tools. The trailer light wiring is all soldered so there are no wire crimp splicers that are prone to loose connections from corrosion. The trailer utilizes a standard round 7 way RV trailer light plug. There is a tongue jack with a rotating wheel so the camper can easily be managed by hand. The tongue requires a 1-7/8″ ball and the trailer sits completely level when the top of the ball is 19″ above the surface of the ground.
